Prior to the Amazing Spider-Man reboot, fans were up in arms to see Donald Glover play Spider-Man on the big screen.

While the role eventually went to Andrew Garfield, it looks like the actor will finally get his chance to play Spidey. In this Sunday’s Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney XDGlover will play Miles Morales, Marvel’s half-black, half-Hispanic Spider-Man from the Ultimate Universe.

It’s an exciting choice for fans — and it’s all too fitting on Marvel’s part considering the origin of the character. Back in 2010, fans quickly made the #donald4spiderman online hashtag a viral hit, creating plenty of images of Glover in the classic red and blue costume. The campaign would eventually serve as inspiration for Brian Michael Bendis, the writer behind Ultimate Spider-Man. So when Peter Parker died at the hands of the Green Goblin in 2011, 13-year-old Miles Morales was in a perfect position to take up the mantle, and he’s become a fan favorite in the years since.

In the above clip released by USA Today, Glover seems perfectly comfortable in the role. (His voice does make him sound a bit older than Drake Bell’s Peter Parker.) A longtime fan of Spider-Man, he admitted: “I just tried to be as me as possible, because you’re always just going to bring it back to yourself when you watch the show.”
